What Makes Gateway Stand Out Among Cancer Research Foundations?

Our focus at Gateway is to help change the face of cancer NOW! Cancer affects the lives of millions of people every year. With the research grants awarded through Gateway, we are committed to furthering innovative cancer research that has the potential to improve treatment options for cancer patients of today. What differentiates us from other cancer research foundations include the following:

  • We focus solely on research that can have an impact on patients of today – not several years down the road.

  • We only fund research projects – not educational and outreach programs.

  • We encompass both conventional therapies and the best complementary medicine.

  • We only fund clinical studies – all cancer research studies are past the test tube phase & don't include the use of laboratory animals.

  • 99% of all donations go directly to cancer research programs – made possible by generous underwriting of our daily operational expenses.

As you can see, we are not like other cancer research foundations. Our funded research encompasses some of the most innovative uses of conventional therapies as well as some of the most promising science-based complementary medicines. We are dedicated to having an impact on cancer patients today!

Unfortunately the one thing we do have in common with other cancer research foundations is that we are dependant upon the help of donations made by generous supporters like you. Colorectal Cancer Research

Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer found in men and women in the United States and is the second most common cause of cancer death. Millions of lives are affected by this disease each year. In pursuit of innovative new treatment options that can positively impact those patient's treatment options, Gateway has provided funding to several colon cancer research projects including the following:

Estrogen, Calcium, and Vitamin D in Colon Cancer Prevention

With a prevention approach, this study is looking at the potential of estrogen in protecting against pre-cancer polyps and tumor formation.

A Randomized Trial of Surgery Versus Endoscopic Stent for Palliation of Malignant Colon Obstruction

This colon cancer research is evaluating two common treatments for bowel obstruction associated with cancer to determine the best possible outcome based on the quality of life for patients after surgery.

Inhibition of Colon Tumors in Human Populations

While this approach is now being evaluated in numerous colon cancer research projects around the country, Gateway was the first to explore this potentially safe and effective approach to inhibiting colonic tumors in patients.

Ovarian Cancer Research

Often going undiagnosed until it is in an advanced stage, ovarian cancer can be one of the most challenging cancers to fight. Occurring in about one out of every 57 women, this cancer affects many lives each year. Dedicated to finding innovative treatment options our cancer research foundation's ovarian cancer research grants include:

Immunotherapy of Ovarian Cancer and Other Malignancies Expressing CEA Using Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA) Peptide-Pulsed Dendritic Cells

The results of this ovarian cancer research has justified the further exploration into this as a broadly applicable form of cancer immunotherapy.

Antioxidant Effects in the Treatment of Newly Diagnosed Ovarian Cancer When Added to First Line Chemotherapy

This study is designed to evaluate the benefits of adding antioxidant therapy to traditional chemotherapy during ovarian cancer treatment.

Correlative Study of Letrozole in Patients with Recurrent Advanced Borderline Tumors or Low Grade Epithelial Cancers of the Ovary, Fallopian Tube and Primary Peritoneum

With borderline ovarian tumors accounting for 10-15% of all ovarian cancer, research is being done to investigate whether the drug Letrozole, whose estrogen inhibiting properties have been useful in treating breast cancer, could be effective in treating this form of ovarian cancer. Since these recurring tumors are not very responsive to chemotherapy, this ovarian cancer research could prove very promising.

Innovative Cancer Research

Our cancer research foundation's goal is to cure cancer through the pursuit of patient oriented clinical research that delivers innovative treatment options to cancer patients today. Dedicated to exploring cutting-edge applications of conventional therapies and the best complementary medicines, Gateway is making a difference in cancer treatment now, not 5 or 10 years down the road. From ovarian cancer research to colon cancer research to many other types of cancer, our cancer research foundation's focus is to change the face of cancer NOW!
