Fact Sheet
Who we are:
Gateway for Cancer Research (Gateway), a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization based in Schaumburg, IL, is dedicated to curing cancer through funding patient-centered clinical studies that impact those battling cancer.
What we do:
Gateway funds conventional, integrative and complementary phase I and phase II cancer research trials done by some of the most pioneering researchers from around the world.
What makes us different?
Gateway focuses on research that can have an impact on cancer patients today as well as 10 years down the road. The type of research we fund bridges the gap between the laboratory and other larger studies, keeping cancer research progressing toward a cure.
Gateway ONLY funds research (not outreach, education, etc.), which assures a focused, immediate impact on patients.
Gateway research encompasses the most innovative applications of conventional therapies (chemotherapy, radiation and surgery) and the best in science-based complementary medicine (nutrition, biofeedback, psychoneuro-immunology, spiritual, etc).
Gateway only supports clinically based studies that have passed the test tube stage, are ready to make a meaningful impact on cancer patients, and do not include use of laboratory animals.
99 cents of every dollar donated to Gateway funds cancer research programs, thanks to the generous underwriting of daily operational expenses. This ratio is unparalleled in any not-for-profit setting.
Since 1991, Gateway has funded innovative ideas and creative approaches. Click here for details on current research studies.
Special Fund:
The Walter Payton Cancer Fund is a special fund within Gateway. The fund was created after Connie Payton was devastated by the loss of her husband, legendary football player Walter Payton. The Fund is dedicated to funding research that highlights the role of nutrition in cancer treatment and prevention. For more information, visit www.payton34.org.
