Mission and Purpose: The Gateway for Cancer Research is dedicated to curing cancer and improving long-lasting quality-of-life through its exclusive funding of patient-focused clinical studies delivering innovative treatment options right now for today’s cancer patients. The overall goal of The Gateway’s Clinical Trial Treatment Delivery Program is to drive quality, life-saving results for cancer patients today.
The Gateway for Cancer Research (The Gateway) does not support extensions of conventional or traditional therapies including but not limited to chemotherapy and/or radiological projects or studies in Phase IV trials. Also, no pre-clinical, basic or animal research is funded. The Gateway will only support truly innovative and unique clinical trials that have the potential to immediately impact the lives of cancer patients in a positive way. Applicants for clinical trial support from The Gateway should pay close attention to the Mission and Purpose of our organization appearing above. The Gateway is only interested in providing support to investigators who will collaborate with us to fulfill our Mission and Purpose.
We are seeking inventive and creative new and better treatment options (e.g., new agents, immunotherapy, biological response modifiers, gene therapy, clinical nutrition and bionutrition, etc.) to fund. The Gateway’s Clinical Trial Treatment Delivery Program is the vehicle by which proactive investigators may focus directly on their cancer patients’ clinical problems and deliver clinical treatments that may prove successful today. We are particularly interested in identifying and funding clinical investigators who:
1. Have outstanding clinical treatment ideas relevant to today’s cancer patients and are without clinical trial support from the NIH or other cancer research agencies or foundations.
2. Are driven to deliver new and better treatment options for their patients today through clinical trial studies directly relevant to The Gateway’s Mission and Purpose and have collaborated to design novel, new, and/or pilot projects distinctly removed from currently funded research projects.
ELIGIBILITY: Both new and established investigators are encouraged to apply. All established investigators requesting funds should show how their project is a departure from ongoing funded work. New projects may be an extension of other work but cannot overlap any funded studies unless the applicant clearly demonstrates that new funding will not duplicate existing support. If The Gateway discovers any overlap at anytime after approval, The Gateway will require that your return all issued funds. The Gateway’s funds are not intended for use as bridging support for projects not funded by other funding agencies. Rather, the intent of your proposed project should be to provide preliminary data for future support from other funding sources, driving new and better treatment options to market quicker.
USE OF FUNDS: Awarded money will be paid according to results produced. It should be used for non-reimbursable approved treatment- and study-related patient-care costs, including extraordinary laboratory and imaging studies and supplies. Funds may also be also be used to support only the portion of salary completely devoted to the approved project by the Principal Investigator and other key personnel. Equipment will not be funded, and maintenance of equipment will only be funded if use is demonstrated to be wholly exclusive to your approved project by The Gateway. Such requests will require full with written explanation on how this use of funding is directly achieves results for patients today. Indirect costs will be considered up to a maximum of 10% based on our not-for-profit status and necessary explanations to our donors regarding how their money is spent. The Gateway’s staff site visit [1-2 per study year] should be included within your budget at $1000.00 per year for you expected duration.
